What's new
Version 1.0.3 · Plan the hunt, keep a journal
Coming soon
- Imagery year: on Satellite or Hybrid, flip back through past summers' aerial photos where you are, as far back as 2004, to see old cuts, plots and trails.
- Terrain contours and slope shading come from USGS LiDAR, 1 m where it's been flown, and now say so.
- Journal: name the animal on a sighting or harvest ("Big 8") and follow it through the season. Wind, temperature, time from sunrise or sunset and the moon are saved with every entry, even with no signal, and the journal shows the patterns. Mark → Journal.
- Hunt plans: draw routes, drive lines, deer-movement arrows, bedding areas and notes on the map with a finger, as named plans. A party's leader switches one plan on and everyone in the party sees it; give a route to someone and they can follow it, with a tap on their phone or watch if they stray off it and which way is back. Tap Plan.
- Notes on a hunt area's season card: access rules, gate codes, landowner contacts, what worked last year. They sync with the hunt area.
- After a few days of use and a good hunt, the app may ask you to rate it in the App Store (at most once per version).
- We now note how new members found us: whether an Apple Ads ad led to the install (Apple tells us, no tracking permission needed), or the tag on a sign-up link. See the privacy policy.
Version 1.0.2 · DarkGrid Hunt
Coming soon
- We're now DarkGrid Hunt. Same app, same account, same subscription; just a new name and icon.
- One-tap status from the map: the megaphone button sends On stand, Heading back, Shot fired, Deer down, Need help or Wait for me to your party.
- Mark a sighting (deer, turkey, bear or other game) in one tap: it tells your party and drops a pin where you're standing.
- The Party list shows each hunter's latest status and how long ago they sent it.
- Ask a party member to start their hunt from the Party list, and add someone to your party from there.
- Property lines and owner names across much more of the country, wherever our county data doesn't reach yet.
- Hunt areas show their lots' details (owner, acreage, legal description, last sale and parcel number), filled in automatically.
- Long hunts record reliably, however long the day; very long trips are saved in parts.
- Your track is saved to your account every hour while you record.
- Request a county that isn't mapped yet and our AI gets to work right away: finding its property, public land and season data for us to check and build.
- Redeem an App Store offer code from the subscription screen.
- Clearer messages: when a pin is only visible to you, when a track is too short to save, and what deleting your account does to an App Store subscription.
- Party chat stays in time order, with a line between days.
- Settings → About: what's new, data sources, terms of use and privacy in one place, and a cleaner map without the info button.
