Getting started

New here? How it works is the three steps: draw your hunt area, make a party, start the hunt (everyone in the party does this).

Account

How do I sign up?

Open the app (or app.darkgrid.cloud) and choose Sign in with Apple, or Create account with your email. Email sign-ups get a 6-digit code to confirm the address.

I forgot my password

On the sign-in screen tap Forgot password?. We'll email a code to set a new one. This also lets accounts made with Apple add a password, for signing in on the website.

How do I delete my account?

In the iPhone app: Settings → Account & notifications → Delete account. On the website: open the account menu, then Delete account. You'll see exactly what happens to any shared areas before you confirm. See the privacy policy for details.

Maps and coverage

Where do property lines and public land show up?

Detailed parcel, public-land and aerial imagery layers currently cover Virginia and the surrounding mid-Atlantic, northern Vermont, and eastern South Carolina with southern North Carolina. We're adding more areas. Search, base maps, wind and season lookups work across the US.

Why are there no owner names in my county?

We show what each county publishes. Some counties don't publish parcel data, or publish boundaries without owner names. The map tells you when that's the case.

Is a property line exact?

No. Parcel lines come from county tax maps and can be off by several meters or more. They're not a survey. Always respect posted boundaries and get permission before hunting private land.

Are seasons and shooting hours official?

They're read from your state wildlife agency's published regulations, and the app links to the source. Regulations change and have exceptions, so confirm with the official regulations before you hunt.

Can I use maps without signal?

Yes. The iPhone app saves maps of your hunt areas for offline use. Before you head out, check that the area says Available offline.

Hunting party

How do I share an area?

Open the hunt area, choose Share, and invite people by email. Everyone in the area sees the same waypoints, stands and tracks.

Messaging without cell service

Pair a Meshtastic LoRa radio (for example a RAK WisMesh) over Bluetooth in the app's settings. Your party can then message and see each other's positions by radio, with no cell signal. Everything else in the app works without a radio.
